10th China International Insurance Summit 2018

May 16-18, 2018 · Crowne Plaza Beijing Chaoyang U-Town, China

The 10th China International Insurance Summit 2018 was held on May 16-18 in Beijing, gathering representatives of leading domestic and international insurers, trade associations, as well as policymakers and analysts, to discuss important developments underway in the Chinese insurance industry. The three-day event covered a broad range of content, notably, the effects of digitalization and globalization on the industry, and the emergence of new insurance product models.

The event opened with a special day of content on the effects of the Belt and Road Initiative on the insurance industry in China, with firsthand testimony from high-level executives representing CPIC and Zurich Insurance, on opportunities for insurers in the wake of greater integration of markets across Asia. A panel discussion explored the challenges resulting from increased competitor market access, as well as the potential of the Asia Development Bank to spur growth in the insurance sector.

The following day included content detailing the remarkable growth of the Chinese insurance industry over the past 40 years, and forecasting future growth and development trends. The event Chairman, Xu Wenhu, President of the Insurance Research Institute of Fudan University, tackled the regulatory climate for insurance in China, in a thorough presentation. Afternoon presentations addressed the revolutionary effects of big data, and the Fintech field, on insurance products. That night, delegates participated in the Duxes Insurance Gala and Award Ceremony 2018, an annual platform recognizing the contributions of outstanding insurers in the market; 10 separate awards were given to enterprises that pursued innovation and exceptional service over the past year, and more than 25 media outlets were onsite covering the ceremony.

The final day continued with an in-depth look at the effects of Fintech on insurance models. Speakers highlighted cutting-edge blockchain technology, advances in artificial intelligence and bots, digital insurance, as well as the potential for big data to provide insights on insurance customers. Further content detailed investment asset management issues, niche demands of high-net worth customers, and health insurance that meets the needs of China’s aging population.

The 10th China International Insurance Summit 2018 drew acclaim from attendees, and continued event organizer Duxes’ decade of engagement with the Chinese insurance industry. Special acknowledgement is owed to the event endorsers: iis, and CIFA, in addition to sponsors: Gago Group, Adamjee Insurance, MSCI, and Guggenheim, for their vital assistance in hosting the summit.
